Transcendent Experiences in Sports - in the zone

Billie jean king

Many athletes have transcendent experiences similar the experiences of yogis. Yogis achieve the state of samadhi by deep concentration and meditation on the Divine using mantras, prayers and breathing techniques (pranayamas), the athletes by concentrating fully to their performance. The yogis can repeat consciously these experiences but to the athletes these happen occasionally and accidentally.

The highest state of human evolution is to realize the its unity with the universal spirit or consciousness. This state becomes permanent after we achieve the Nirvikalpa Samadhi in which the individual mind merges in the ocean of universal consciousness and the ego dissolves forever. In that state we are one with the whole cosmos. We experience the universe in us as our own Self.

After the dissolution of egoic mind we are always in the state of Sahaja Samadhi which is spontaneous and effortless abidance in our center of existence (heart) which is pure consciousness or awareness and identical with the universal consciousness (what religions call God). In this state we experience effortlessy unlimited freedom, supreme peace, stupendous silence and unalloyed bliss.

I quote here the experiences of some athletes.
